India shines World Boxing in Baku, Manoj & Dinesh enter Pre-Quarters

India shines World Boxing in Baku Manoj  Dinesh enter Pre QuartersThe 2011 AIBA World Boxing Championships which are held from September 22 - October 10, 2011 in Baku, Azerbaijan, have a particular significance as the first major qualifying event for the London 2012 Olympic Games. The events that began last week had important significance on Sunday for the country with Indian squad winning some remarkable bouts.

India's Manoj Kumar (64 kg) and Dinesh Kumar (81 kg) entered the pre-quarterfinals of the while Suranjoy Singh (52 kg) bowed out of the competition. Manoj, Commonwealth Games gold medallist was unstoppable in his 19:7 win over Raymond Moylette of Ireland. Manoj's next opponent will be Chinese Hu Qing, who narrowly defeated Samir Machrouh of France.

The other Indian Dinesh advanced to the round of 16 after his opponent Bosko Draskovic of Monte Negro was disqualified in the third round of the bout. Both boxers traded equal punches from the start in round three, Bosko fouled for the third time with head butts and the referee correctly gave him a third warning leading to disqualification. Dinesh will now meet Damien Hooper of Australia in the next round.

The third Indian for the day, Suranjoy’s defeat to Tugstsogt Nyambayar was the big disappointment of the day. On Saturday Indian campaign suffered a major upset in the form of Olympic Bronze medalist Vijender Singh (75kg) who crashed out of the mega-event after having lost his opening round bout against Cuba's Emilio Correa.
