Nokia CL - T20 - South Australia Redbacks defeats KKR

GambirThe Hyderabad match on Tuesday was a dampener in a way and an entertainer the other way. Nokia Champions League Twenty20, 2011 was played by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) against South Australian Redbacks (SAR) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.

SAR skipper Michael Klinger won the toss and elected to bat in their Group B encounter against the KKR. SAR was a strong unit and they pick up their first win of the tournament.

SAR made a solid 188/5 in their formidable win in twenty overs with a classy Knock of 70 runs by Callum Fergusonnot and 42 runs by Daniel Christian. The feeble damage was done by Balaji who claimed 2 wickets.  Fifteen runs were scored off the last over as Callum Ferguson finished with 70 not out. Brett Lee was hit for two sixes by Ferguson which included one off the final ball of the innings.

In reply to this KKR failed miserably after getting off on perfect start in their chase of 189 for victory by scoring 13 runs off the opening over. The only delights with the bat were Manoj Tiwary who scored 42 runs and Ryan ten Doeschate who made 32. The bowling department of SAR meticulously planned with fierce attack by Gary Putland who claimed 3 wickets and Kane Richardson who took 2 wickets. The fireworks in the last over from Rajat Bhatia only enabled the Kolkata Knight Riders to reduce their margin of defeat against South Australia Redbacks. Bhatia struck two sixes and a four off the bowling of Gary Putland before holing out to Callum Ferguson as Kolkata went down by 19 runs.

The formidable SAR won the match comfortably and KKR with batting prowess put a very bad show.
