Gamera II human powered helicopter, second in tis series has broken the earlier record and stayed upon its record flight foer 50 seconds. The copter designed by the University of Maryland's Alfred Gessow Rotorcraft Center was peadalled by Kyle Gluesenkam. The pilot could keep the copter in air for a record 50 seconds. Wishesh gives you a video for your information. This supersedes the earlier attempt by Colin Gore on the same Gamera II and he was in air for about 40 seconds.
However this attempt by Kyle Gluesenkam has broken the earlier records of the prototype, by staying in air for almost five times more time. Gamera I piloted by Judy Wexler stayed up for 11.4 seconds last summer. The present attempt also beats an attempt made by Akira Naito's Yuri I in 1994 who satyed up for 19.4 seconds.
Reports say that the team has built the copter to bag the the 250,000- dollar Sikorsky Prize, given by the American Helicopter Society. However to win the prize the team need to develop a copter that could stay up for 60 seconds at an altitude of 3m (10 ft) above. But unable to achieve its objective as the flight was ten seconds short of the required flight time. Anyway more to be done by the team to harness the technology for better outputs.
