Leander Paes & Sania Mirza win the US Open in Mixed doubles and Women’s doubles categories respectively. Both won with their partner being Martina Hingis.
It’s the third grand slam of the year for Leander Paes having won Australian Open, Wimbledon and now the US Open. He has partnered with Hingis for all three of them. The final was with American duo Sam Querrey and Bethanie Mattek-Sands whom they defeated 6-4, 3-6, 10-7.
Leander Paes has been at his career best after 1999 at the age of 42 and looks like there is much more to come from him and age doesn’t seem to matter. He holds a total of 17 Grand slams titles in his career with 9 of them in mixed doubles category only standing behind Martina Navratilova who holds 10 in the same category.
In the women doubles category, yet again Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis combination has won the US Open without losing a set defeating Casey Dellacqua and Yaroslava Shvedova 6-3, 6-3. Sania holds number one position in women doubles category with her partner Martina Hingis in second position.
This is the second grand slam title for Sania Mirza, the prior one being with Martina Hingis in the same year at All England Club.
