World Champion PV Sindhu Returns Home: India's first world badminton woman champion PV Sindhu who shot gold returned back to the country last evening and she received a warm welcome along with huge cheers from the Indians. PV Sindhu promised to work harder and thanked everyone for supporting and congratulating her on the glorious victory. The Olympic silver-medallist, who out-played Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara 21-7 21-7 in a lop-sided final of the big event in Basel, Switzerland on August 25, reached here with national coach Pullela Gopichand last night.
“I am really happy, I am very proud of my country. It’s a much-awaited win and I am very happy about it,” said PV Sindhu when she interacted with the media. PV Sindhu had a breakfast meeting with Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju and she would be meeting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi this evening in the national capital. With the Olympics less than a year away, PV Sindhu promised to work even harder and live up the expectations in the coming days. Sindhu turned emotional while receiving the gold medal.
