IPL 2020 to have a New Title Sponsor:- In a major move, Vivo which happens to be the title sponsor of the Indian Premier League (IPL) pulled out themselves from the 13th edition of the tournament which is planned to commence in the United Arab Emirates. The BCCI and IPL Governing Council refused to accept Vivo as the sponsor after the recent happenings. Indian government already banned 59 Chinese apps and the border issues between India, China made things murkier. Considering all the current developments and happenings, Vivo decided to opt-out of IPL 2020. They may sponsor IPL for the upcoming years but not this year.
The officials of Vivo had a word with the officials of BCCI today. BCCI took a legal advice and they decided to stay away from controversies after which the decision was made. Vivo paid a whopping amount of Rs 2199 crores to retain the IPL sponsorship from 2017 to 2022. BCCI is expected to finalize the new title sponsor through the bidding process and they have received many requests. The Indian government was quick and took swift action by banning the Chinese apps after 20 Indian soldiers lost their lives in the Galwan valley attack. IPL 2020 will commence in September and will conclude on November 8th.
