Bangladesh Defeat Aussies By 20 Runs In The 2-Test series

Bangladesh defeated Australia by 20 runs to go 1-0 up in the 2-Test series by creating a historic win.

The visitors, chasing 265, looked well set after opener David Warner’s blistering 112, but his dismissal led to a meltdown, losing 8 for 86 as they were bowled out for 244, despite Pat Cummins's fighting unbeaten 33.

In front of a boisterous home crowd, and in the presence of Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, the victory was achieved.

Rahim led his team to just their 10th Test win in 101 Tests.

To win the first Test against Bangladesh, David Warner and Steve Smith left day three with Australia at 2/108 with 157 runs. Ahead in the first session on day four, Warner blasted Australia, bringing up his first century. But then chaos hit and Australia descended.

Before heading into lunch seven wickets down, the Aussie batsmen fell to the spin of Shakib Al Hasan and Taijul Islam for the remainder of the morning.

Glenn Maxwell threw his wicket away straight after lunch and from there it was all downhill. A cameo from Pat Cummins (33*) had Aussie fans hopeful but a rampaging Shakib - who finished the match with 10 wickets - eventually led his side to a triumphant finish.

Ruling the 26-year-old out of the rest of the series, Australia lost premier fast bowler Josh Hazlewood on day three with a side strain. Australia announced the following day that Steve O’Keefe will be the man to replace him in the squad.

Australian wicket keeper Matthew Wade may as well have played for Bangladesh in the first Test. Letting through 30 byes on the dusty wicket, the 29-year-old had a nightmare match behind the stumps. His effort with the bat was not any better, scoring just nine runs across Australia’s two innings as the visitors collapsed under the Tigers’ spin.

Australia needed a hero, after a disastrous first session. In the fourth morning of the Test match, five wickets fell, bringing Aussie all-rounder Glenn Maxwell to the crease with tailender Ashton Agar at the other end. The 28-year-old attempted to slash Shakib Al Hasan but was clean bowled, leaving Australia’s tail wide open with over 70 runs to make.

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan schooled Australia in the first Test, taking a 10-wicket haul and scoring an impressive 84 in the first innings. The 30-year-old is the only man in the history of Test cricket to take 10 wickets next to a score of 80-plus in a match.
