BCCI To Invite More Applications For Indian Team Coach Post

BCCI To Invite More Applications For Indian Team Coach Post:- To give the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) a wide range of options for picking the suitable candidate, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to invite more applications for the post of Indian team’s coach.

This move of the cricket board comes after coach Anil Kumble has decided to step down from his position. Yesterday, the extension of his contract till the West Indies tour, was refused by Kumble. He further cited captain Virat Kohli’s reservation over his ‘style’ of functioning.

A top BCCI official associated with the process told a leading news channel that, for fresh applications another 7-10 days may be given, so that other interested candidates with suitable qualification and stature can apply for the top job.

A senior BCCI official said, “Anil was an automatic entry when we had invited applications last time. That might have prompted a lot of people from thinking that what is the need to apply when current coach is doing well and is in the mix.”

“Now the situation has completely changed. A lot of people will now be interested knowing it is an open field,” added the official.

The last date to send application was May 31, when BCCI had advertised the post.

When asked about Virender Sehwag, who is considered a favorite, the official said, “The application of Sehwag has no connection with BCCI to call for more applications. The ultimate decision would be of the CAC, who would decide on the next coach.”

Sehwag, Tom Moody, Lalchand Rajput, Richard Pybus, Doda Ganesh are the applicants as of now. The application was also given by former Australia bowling coach Craig McDermott, but it was rejected as it did not come on time.
