Tendulkar’s son Arjun scores 106 off 156 balls

In Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) Under - 16 Payyade Trophy match at the Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana, Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun slammed 106 off 156 balls.

Arjun is playing for Sunil Gavaskar XI and supported his team to score a total of 218 runs against Rohit Sharma XI. In his 106 runs, he had 16 fours and 2 sixes.

Speaking about Arjun’s performance, Sunil Gavaskar XI coach Vikas Satam said, “We didn’t get a good start and we desperately were looking for someone to score. Arjun today played his natural game. He played his strokes nicely and never once let the pressure get to him. We kept losing wickets from one end but Arjun took up the responsibility and batted the team out of a hole. It was a chance-less innings and as this tournament is a selection trial, it must have boosted his confidence greatly.”

In Mumbai, for under 16 players, the Payyade Trophy tournament acts as a selection trial.

In the recent May, at the Wankhede Stadium, Arjun was trained under Pakistan former captain Wasim Akram, regarding bowling and few other key cricket classes.

Being the bowling coach of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Indian Premier League (IPL) team, Akram spoke about Arjun saying, “I met Arjun last summer in England, he played an exhibition game there. He was bowling and I was standing at mid on. And I think he got Brian Lara out. He is just 15 years old, he is very keen, he is a left-arm medium pacer. I spoke to him about his action and about his swing and also about his fitness which is very very crucial. He is very eager and that is a good thing.”
