Former India captain Sourav Ganguly was appointed as the new president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), after BCCI chief Jagmohan Dalmiya, left his breath, this Sunday, due to the cardiac arrest.
Thanking all his colleagues for the opportunity, Ganugly said, “If the 117 members agree, I will take over the responsibility, will try and do the best”.
On the other side, the joint secretary of the state body had the pleasure of opting Dalmiya’s son Abhishek in the seat. After a meeting with the CAB officials, this announcement was made by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamatha Banerjee.
However, before the annoucement of Ganguly as the president, there are speculations stating that even, the CAB joint secretary and current treasurer Biswarup Dey, would be made as the president, as he too has the every eligibility to sit on the chair. But however the luck knocked Ganguly’s door.
Biggies support to Ganguly for CAB President post
But a few of the people say that, it is not just luck, but also Ganguly politics, that supported him to be selected as the president. Just before a day of the president post announcement, he met West Bengal CM Mamatha along with Abhishek. But none of them disclosed the summary of the meeting, to the media.
Along with this, Arun Jaitley, who is considered to be the crucial influence in BCCI politics, also supported Ganguly, the reports said.
On the other side, a few of the officials and close sources of Ganguly completely condemned the allegations, stating that, Ganguly has eligibility and so he need not play any cheap politics for the post.
Whatever be the case, it is the fact that, Ganguly is now the president of CAB and if he carries all his responsibilities well as a president, then all the allegations, will turn as blessings. Hope our Dada works on it.
