1999, 2004 series possible because of Jagmohan Dalmiya - Miandad

Javed Miandad, the former Pakistan captain has paid homage to the late Jagmohan Dalmiya, saying he was someone who had a lot of respect towards Pakistani cricket and 1999, 2004 series is possible only because of him.

Dalmiya had provided great hospitality to the visiting side. When Miandad was the Pakistan’s coach, the team went to India for a series in 1999, said Dalmiya had provided great hospitality to the visiting side.

Speaking to the media Miandad said, “I am extending my deepest condolences to Dalmiya family. Dalmiya is respected for his role in raising the status of the subcontinent and South Asian region in world cricket. His name can never be replaced with another.”

Dalmiya, who has been as the President of the BCCI, left his last breath on Sunday in Kolkata.

Miandad said, “Especially Dalmiya is to be appreciated for his struggle in encouraging Indo-Pak cricket encounters.” Not stopping there, he even took out two instances, which proved the statement. He said, 1999 and 2004 series are two strong examples to say Dalmiya developed encounters between India and Pakistan cricket matches.

Miandad further added that, chances of Indo-Pak series taking place in December are less and might even cancel, if the need arises. “I don’t think there are any hopes on the match now,” Miandad said.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) released an official statement saying that, Dalmiya is a true friend of Pakistan cricket and will remain to be so for ever.

Suggesting PCB, Miandad said, “Everything depends on how well PSL is organized at the venue. But I feel, even Indian players are to be invited to the event, no matter they turn to it or not. That is the way we can show the difference from the Indian players.”
