Shikhar Dhawan out of Sri Lanka test series

Due to a hairline fracture in his right hand, Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the remaining two Tests of the three-match test series against Sri Lanka.

Indian opener, Dhawan scored a century in the first innings of the first Test. After that, he is unseen on the field in Sri Lanka's second essay, as his injuries are found to be severe.

"The BCCI medical team has confirmed that opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of the remaining part of India's tour of Sri Lanka - 2015. Dhawan had injured his right hand during the first Test at Galle. He underwent further tests that confirmed a hairline fracture in his hand. He would require four to six weeks to recover from the injury," a BCCI media release said.

Along with Dhawan, even Murali Vijay is also under bed rest. Under the observation of physio Patrick Farhart, the team management stated that Vijay was getting better.

So at this moment, KL Rahul is the only specialist opener for India. However, in a few of the test matches, Cheteshwar Pujara also had the experience of acting as an opener for India. In fact, he even opened with Rahul for India A against Australia A in Chennai.

After Dhawan is put out, Stuart Binny will now be back to 15th member of the squad. The team management is yet to announce the name, which replaces Dhawan in the match. Vikram Rathour and Saba Karim are the two selectors, travelling with the team.
