India is 4th worst place for mothers

Do you know that India is fourth worst place for mothers? Yes, the country, which has told the world, the tales of unconditional love of mother has now turned out to be a hell to mothers, unfortunately. In a survey that was conducted in 80 under developed countries over safe place for new mothers, India ranked 76th and the reason-poor medical attention during pregnancy, post development and neonatal care.

The State of the World’s Mothers stated that India showed unsatisfactory performance in delivery and child nutrition. In fact, India has 43 per cent of underweight children who are below five children. This happens to be the world’s highest rates of child malnutrition.

Besides the index of World’s Mother, a report by NGO—Save the Children stated that less thatn 40 per cent kids in India receive the maximum benefits of breastfeeding, which is very unfortunate to note. Thomas Chandy from Save the Children has said that India made efforts for improving maternal heath by implementing institutional deliveries, but not many people have benefitted by this. Even today many births in India take place in the absence of skilled health staff.

Let us hope that the governments shift their focus on maternal and neonatal care. (Phani)
