The highly esteemed Hoover Medal honor for the year 2012 has been awarded to Narayana Murthy, the co-founder of Infosys, the Indian IT giant. The Hoover medal was conferred on him on Monday for his indispensable services to mankind by means of his company which helped several improvements in the fields of healthcare, Social rehabilitation, development of villages and education.
Narayana Murthy's honor is an Honor to our nation for being the 70th person to have the medal after the inception of the Hoover Medal in 1930 joining the likes of former US presidents Herbert Hoover, Dwight D. Eisenhower and James Earl Carter. The medal is conferred to engineers who dedicate their lives for unstinting, unselfish and non-technical services for the society. Several other communities and individuals who had been trying to use their technologies for the service of the economically backward communities in the world.
The Hoover Medal Board with its Vice Chairman P. Somasundaran of Columbia University and IEEE President Dr. Gordon W. Day, have been present at the ceremony.
Tthe Infosys Science Foundation was established in 2009 to promote science research in India. Narayana Murthy earned himself great respect among the business leaders of the world with his visionary establishment of Infosys Limited in 1981. The Global Delivery Model pioneered and designed by Murthy has become the cornerstone of India's success in information technology outsourcing.
