An NRI in South Africa bagged Young Woman in Science Award. Thirty-six-year old Sarojini Nadar received this award for her meritorious contribution in the field of science. The announcement of award was made by South Africa science and technology minister Naledi Pandor. He has also said that this award would be given to the young scientists who show amazing talent in their research activities. People below 40 years are only eligible for this award, he said. Sarojini Nadar, the recipient of this award, completed her doctoral studies (Ph.D) in 2003. Since then she has been actively conducting several research activities on gender based violence and masculinity.
Sarojini Nadar even received University Research Award in the year 2009 from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. She currently holds the position of editor at Journal of Gender and Religion in Africa. Nadar, who comes from a working class, expresses her happiness on bagging this award. Its a matter of pride for every Indian to note that an NRI woman bagged a distinguished award. Sarojini Nadar's achievement would undoubtedly become an inspiration to scores of people.
