GMR Wins Bid For Vizag's Bhogapuram International Airport:- A big announcement about Vizag International airport arrived months ago. GMR emerged as the highest bidder for green-field Bhogapuram International Airport project. AP Government invited bids for developers in July last year. On Monday, the financial bids were opened by the officials of Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation (APADCL), a government nodal agency. GMR who developed Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport ended up as the successful bidder and they offered a fee of Rs 303 per passenger as revenue share to the government.
Doit Smart Infrastructure India Private Limited and GVK stood next with a fee of Rs 261 and Rs 207 per passenger respectively. GMR at the rate of Rs 303 will have to pay Rs 150 crores to the AP Government if the passengers handled by the airport touches 5 million per year. GMR is expected to complete the project in three years and the proposed investment is said to be Rs 2700 crores. GMR, GVK Power and Infrastructure Limited, Reliance Airport Developers Private Limited, Essel Infraprojects Limited, Doit Infra, National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF) and Fairfax India Holdings were shortlisted for final bidding.
The Bhogapuram airport will be constructed at the north coastal district of Vizianagaram.
