India's biggest and leading telecom operator, Airtel has announced an increase in its post-paid monthly charges by about 12 percent in select plans and this would come effective from December. This is the second hike in rates from AirTel within a period of three months. In September, AirTel had increased mobile internet rates by 33 percent and reduced benefits for its pre-paid customers.
This move could have influence on other telecom operators also. AirTel has over 20 crore customers which include both pre-paid and post-paid. Recently, AirTel has announced the September quarter results and with a net profit at Rs 1,383 crore. In spite of posting good results, AirTel is going ahead with hikes in rates.
