Tata's is today in almost every business that is courtesy to this doyen. The empire has also expanded phenomenally across the globe which is another feather up in this visionary's hat. UK's leading Tea group Tetley's acquisition proves this one point. He also was instrumental in reversing history by forming the TATA-AIG, an insurance arm of the giant. Earlier the New India Assurance, founded by Dorab Tata in 1919, was nationalised in 1956. That showed his prowess to bring back what was lost to the empire.

Another remarkable victory for this stalwart is the listing of Tata Motors in 2004 on the New York Stock exchange. However of all the achievements his common man's car 'Nano' was the Kohinoor in his crown in 2008.

Tata's announcement of the next in league as Cyrus Mistry came as a surprise to many who anticipated a same surname to ascend. But the liberal views of the Tata's is evident from the fact that the deserving gets the right post at the right time. The philosophy that needs to be learnt by many traditional corporates.
