Stuck in a traffic jam and worried about being late for your appointment, this is the regular ordeal of all metro denizens. Whether you are in a two/three/n number of wheeler you are sure to get stuck once atleast during the day. A new found study reveals that this jam at logger heads erodes the country’s economy by Rs 60,000 Cr annually. The study that was phased out through 17 major metropolis of the country reveals that the slow crawling and waits at the toll plaza are the main reasons for the loss. The Transport Corporation of India and IIM (Calcutta) culminated to take up the survey.
As per the report by the study, it is said that 'while India's freight volume was increasing at a compounded annual growth rate of 9.08% and vehicles were growing at 10.76%, the road length was increasing at only 4.01%. This has resulted paucity of road space to accommodate vehicles and to increase the speed.'
The study reveals that congestion (including fuel wastage), slow speed of freight vehicles and waiting time at toll plazas and checking points are the main contributors to the Rs 60,000 Cr loss annually. (With Inputs from Internet- Aarkay)
