This is a proud moment not only for Bajaj Auto but also the biking aficionados. Pulsar is the only brand in the performance segment which has crossed the 5 million mark, in India.
The Bajaj Pulsar has yet again achieved a remarkable feat. The brand has crossed the landmark 5 million sales mark, while celebrating a decade of existence. This is a proud moment not only for Bajaj Auto but also the biking aficionados. Pulsar is the only brand in the performance segment which has crossed the 5 million mark, in India.
On November 2001 Bajaj Auto launched the Pulsar in two engine capacities: a powerful 180 cc engine generating 15 Ps of raw pulsating power and the other with a hi-performance 150cc engine. The classic twin Pulsars made an immediate mark for themselves with distinctive muscular styling, standard front disc brakes, self -start etc. and went on to define performance biking in India for the next 10 years.
The bike today has a portfolio starting from 135cc light-sports vehicle to 220cc Street-fighter model enjoying a dominant market share of 44% in the performance segment. To ensure that the Pulsars stayed ahead, Bajaj R & D constantly improved the design and performance even without the pressure of competition. In fact, for many years, the only benchmark for the upgraded Pulsar's was the earlier version itself. In October 2003 the revolutionary Digital Twin Spark Ignition technology - DTS-I was introduced. Many other firsts' like Nitrox suspension, Alloy Wheels, all Black theme, LED tail-lamps, Digital cock-pit etc ensured that the Pulsars ran ahead of competition always.
Commenting on the occasion, Mr. K Srinivas, President - Motorcycle Business, said; "Not many brands in the Indian automobile space have crossed the 5 million mark. This holds true even for mass-motorcycles. The Pulsar range has received many accolades over the years and is probably the most celebrated bike in Indian automobile history. These sporty iconic motorcycles have been a testimony to Bajaj Auto's engineering prowess. We have un-veiled the next generation Pulsar 200 NS, early this year and are positive that it will take the market by storm."
