Dog calls emergency number to save itself

Our canine friends come with many quirks and tricks up their doggy sleeves. But how many times do you hear of a pet saving the day all on its own? It happened to a dog in West Yorkshire, England, when it had accidentally tangled itself in to a bit of a mess.

The 2 year old Basset Hound, George, was almost choked to death by the cord of a phone receiver. George's owner has an old-fashioned heavy phone that could make a dent if it fell on you. The dog knocked it over and became entangled with the cord in the process. The long cord was slowly began strangling George when he dialed 999 while trying to get himself free. He used his paw to somehow dial the number, which is the emergency number akin to 100 here.

Someone at the other end of the line heard his choking breaths and managed to inform the authorities. With a little help from the neighbors, George was saved in the nick of time. The dog with the droopy ears and baleful eyes sure had  a rough moment. But all is well in his world now.
