YS Sharmila to join Congress on January 4th?:- Y S Sharmila, the founder of YSR Telangana party, is set to travel to Delhi on Wednesday to finalize the merger of her party with the Congress. According to sources, Sharmila will meet with top Congress leaders, including AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, to make a significant announcement. Sharmila, the daughter of former chief minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh, Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, and sister of Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, is expected to be given a national-level post in the Congress and may be made in-charge of elections for Southern states after the merger.
The Congress leadership has assured Sharmila that her colleagues in Telangana will also be accommodated appropriately. Sharmila had previously announced her support for the Congress during the recent assembly polls in Telangana, with the aim to end the allegedly corrupt and anti-people rule of BRS led by K Chandrasekhar Rao. Discussions on a possible merger between Sharmila's party and the Congress have been ongoing, with the process now reaching a final stage. Sharmila had also met with Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in the national capital last year.
