High Court Declares Jalagam Venkat Rao as MLA:- Telangana High Court has given a landmark judgement today over the suspension of the MLA and allotted the post to the next candidate, who stood second in the election.
BRS MLA Vanama Venkateshwar Rao won as MLA from the Kothagudem assembly segment. Jalagam Venkat Rao approached High Court in 2019 alleging that Vanama Venkateswara Rao has filed false information in the election affidavit.
Telangana High Court has gone on through an investigation and has delivered the verdict today. The court declared Venkateshwar Rao as invalid and elected Jalagam Venkat Rao as MLA, who stood in second position in the election. HC also imposed a fine of Rs 5 Lakh for submitting a false affidavit.
Jalagam Venkat Rao claimed that Vanama Venkateshwar Rao has not submitted complete property details of him and his wife in Form 26 to the EC (election commission) at the time of elections.
Vanama Venkateswara Rao won as Congress MLA in 2018 and later joined BRS, that is after winning the election. Jalagam Venkat Rao contested from TRS and lost in the election. The landmark judgement was pronounced by Dr Justice Radha Rani of Telangana High Court.
