Greater Noida tops the country with 323 depressed suicides of elderly:- In a shocking development, Greater Noida is topping the suicides of the elderly due to depression. Most of the cases are reported in Gautam Buddh Nagar district. 323 people committed suicide till October this year. The high-rise buildings have been turning out to be the suicide points for the depressed people in the region. An elderly woman who is residing with her daughter and son-in-law jumped from the 22-storey building in Cherry County Society in Greater Noida on November 23rd. She was in depression and the woman has been staying with her daughter from the past seven years. In one more incident reported, a 35-year-old woman jumped from the 16th floor in Supertech Ecovillage 3 housing society on November 22nd. She landed into depression because of a domestic dispute.
92 out of the 323 people jumped from high-rise buildings. Most of the people who committed suicide are victims of mental agony and are above 30 years of age. The deceased have been spotted suffering with mental problems. Psychiatrist Dr Amit Kumar said that several elderly people have been committing suicide because of empty nest syndrome. Most of the elders feel that they are neglected or uncared. Some of them are also taking this extreme step because of loneliness. These are never spotted in joint families told Dr Amit Kumar. He suggested that the children should interact and mingle with their old age parents and should spend time with them. People above the age of 30 are committing suicide because of work pressure or family disputes.
