Former NIMS Director Kakarla is no more:- Renowned Radiologist and forrmer Director of Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Dr Kakarla Subba Rao passed away during the late hours of Friday in Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), Secunderabad at the age of 94. Kakarla Subba Rao is known for his efforts for the transformation of NIMS into a super-speciality hospital. He worked as the director of NIMS between 1985 and 1990 and again between 1997 and 2004. He took retirement after 2004. Kakarla Subba Rao was unwell from a month and was admitted in KIMS. Kakarla Subba Rao breathed his last due to health complications. Kakarla Subba Rao worked as a Professor of Radiology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York after which he returned back to India in the year 1986.
He took a call after the request of AP Chief Minister Late N T Rama Rao and joined NIMS. Kakarla Subba Rao's efforts and works for NIMS is widely lauded across the medical circles. The Indian government honoured him with Padmasri in the year 2000 for his immense contribution in the field of medicine. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao offered his condolences on the demise of Sri Kakarla Subba Rao. He was born in an agricultural family in 1925 in Krishna district. He obtained a medical degree from Andhra Medical College, Vizag after which he flew to the United States for higher studies in 1951. He worked in the hospitals of New York and Baltimore. Rest in peace Kakarla Subba Rao garu and our deep condolences to his family members.
