Cyclone Nivar to make a Landfall near Puducherry at Midnight:- The Tamil Nadu government issued a high alert ahead of the cyclone Nivar. A holiday was declared and the people across the state were asked to remain in their houses. It is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm in the next 12 hours and will make a landfall in Puducherry this midnight or early morning tomorrow as per the reports from the Indian Meteorological Department. As per the reports, the cyclone will make a landfall between Karaikal and Mamallapuram near to Puducherry. All the regions including Chennai received ample rainfall this morning along with strong winds. The power supply was interrupted across most of the regions.

Hundreds of people living across the riverside and coastal regions have been moved to relief camps. Chennai witnessed knee-deep water in most of the colonies because of the heavy rains that lashed the city since last night. Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami extended the public holiday to Thursday in the state for 13 districts including Chennai. The government officials along with the NDRF are taking over the relief activities in the state. As of now, the cyclone Nivar is 190 km east-southeast of Puducherry and 250km south-southeast of Chennai. Both the party leaders and supporters of AIADMK and DMK are carrying out the relief activities.
