Tata Wins a Contract to Construct the New Parliament Building:- Tata Projects bagged the contract to construct the new Parliament building at an estimated cost of Rs 861.90 crores. Tata Projects submitted a bid of Rs 861.90 crores while Larsen and Turbo missed the opportunity after they submitted a bid of Rs 865 crores. The financial bids for the construction of the new Parliament building was opened by the Central Public Works Department today and the new project is expected to be completed in a year. The government civic body estimated that the budget would stand close to Rs 940 crores and the new building of Parliament would be in the shape of a triangle.

The Parliament building is constructed during the British regime and is in a circular shape. The officials said that the premises would be used for other official purposes once the new Parliament building is ready. The Indian government said that the current structure showed signs of distress and over-use after which they decided to go with a new Parliament building. With the reorganization of the constituencies, the number of Lok Sabha MPs will be increased and the current Parliament House has no space to accommodate an extra number of MPs in the house. The new project is a part of the Central vista beautification project. The opposition parties protested against the decision and this is also challenged in the court.
