The Centres said that these do not prevent the virus from spreading out. The Director-General of Health Services (DGHS) in the Ministry of Health wrote a letter to the Principal Secretaries of the health and medical education of all the states. DGHS said that the N-95 masks are of inappropriate use with valved respirators. The DGHS asked the people to use homemade protective masks for face and mouth. It also asked the people to refer them on the web portal of the Ministry of Health.
DGHS Rajiv Garg said "The use of N-95 masks is detrimental for preventing the spread as it does not prevent the virus from escaping from the mask. All the concerned should be informed about the same and people should be asked to use face and mouth cover to prevent the spread of coronavirus". The government always asked the people to use protective cover for mouth and face as a precautionary measure. With number of masks available for sale in market, most of them have been purchasing them. The face covers should be washed and cleaned every day. The government wanted a cotton cloth to be used to cover the faces and mouth.
