Jamia Protests: Supreme Court Directs Petitioners to High Courts:- The Jamia protests created tremors across the country and several students from other universities protested against the cops for entering into the campus of Jamia University in New Delhi. Several petitions have been registered in the Supreme Court and the apex court asked all the petitioners to raise their allegations in their respective High Courts. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta representing the Centre submitted before the top court that not a single student has been arrested by police. The agitation started across the country after the Parliament passed the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
A bench headed by Chief Justice SA Bobde and Justices BR Gavai and Surya Kant asked the High Courts to take a call on the filed petitions. They even asked the state governments to set up an appropriate committee headed by retired judges to conduct a detailed investigation in the probe. The Supreme Court also declined to provide protection from arrest.
