AP Government to Reduce the Number of Bars From 2020:- The Andhra Pradesh government decided to cut down the number of bars in the state in the process of liquor prohibition. YSRCP and it's Chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy made a promise during the elections that he would implement prohibition in the state. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy held a review meeting on government income sources and revenue officials after which he took the call. The excise department informed the Chief Minister that there was an 8.91 percent decline in the excise revenue.

The revenue is said to be Rs 3683.25 crores this year which was Rs 4043.72 crores last year. YS Jagan is keen on imposing a ban on alcohol and he is implementing this in steps. YS Jagan's government decided to reduce the number of bars from January 2020. Alcohol in bars should only be provided between 11 AM and 10 PM. Andhra Pradesh State Beverages Corporation Limited (APSBCL) had taken over the retail of liquor in the state.

AP Government wishes to implement prohibition in phases and will restrict the sale of liquor only to star-hotels. The number of liquor shops in the state are reduced to 3450 from 4580 shops. YSRCP promised to implement prohibition by the time their tenure of five years ends.
