After Huge Outrage, Centre Says Hindi Not Mandatory:- The Centre faced huge criticism from DMK and other parties in Tamil Nadu after it revised the draft of educational policy asking all the states to teach Hindi as mandatory. All the parties in Tamil Nadu badly opposed the decision of three-language formula in the draft of National Educational Policy (NEP). Several national parties too raised their voice in support of Tamil parties. After the three-language proposal triggered outrage, the Union HRD Ministry released a revised draft of the NEP saying that Hindi is not must.

"Students who are in plans to change one or more of the three languages can do so in Grade 6th or 7th to still demonstrate their proficiency in three languages," said the revised draft of NEP. The earlier draft of NEP said that Hindi is mandatory in non-Hindi speaking states. Now the revised draft says that the modular board examinations for any language proficiency would only test the basics of the language chosen. The Centre even asked the states not to panic after the revised draft has been released.
