AP Assembly Passes 5% Reservation Bill For Kapus:- Andhra Pradesh Assembly passed the bill to provide five percent reservation for Kapu community as promised by AP Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu. The passed bill will provide five percent quote for kapu community in education and employment opportunities in the state. Kapus, Ontari, Balija and Telaga castes will fall in the reservation cap. The Bill which has been passed in the state's Assembly has been sent to the Centre for approval as there are constitutional amendments to be made before it will be implemented in the state. TDP Government announced about this reservation last month to give 5% reservation to Kapus from the 10% quota announced by the Centre for the economically weaker sections of people.

Chandra Babu allotted 5% for Kapus and clarified that the rest 5% will be provided to the economically weaker sections of the upper castes. There has been huge pressure mounting on the state government from Kapus who were demanding for special reservation. Leaders like Mudragada Padmanabham made sensational comments and staged protests about this. The bill is now forwarded to the Centre under Schedule IX. Chandra Babu recently clarified that the Centre did not accept the state's request about special reservation for Kapus after which they announced 5% from the EWS.
