After Series Of Protests Thoothukudi Collector Says It Will Return To 100% Normalcy:- Violence-hit Thoothukudi district will return to 100 per cent normalcy by tomorrow, assured collector Sandeep Nanduri this morning.

At an impromptu press meet outside his office, he said all shops and eateries have opened their shutters and it was business as usual.

State transport buses have started plying to Madurai, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts and efforts are being taken to get private buses also to run in the district, he said.

About the restoration of Internet services in the Thoothukudi, he said they were continuously monitoring the situation and passing on the information to the State government. “They will take a decision on when to restore the service,” said Nanduri and pointed out that people of Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari were now able to access Internet.

Regarding the continuance of Section 144 that disallows the gathering of more than four people in any place, the collector said he would hold discussions with police officials and take a decision today. But he conceded that tension still prevailed in some areas of Thoothukudi and so, they would take a decision based on such inputs.

The police, for their part, are checking every vehicle entering the city and clearing them after a thorough search. A hunt is on for some unknown persons who threw a petrol bomb at the Kulathur police station early today.
