AP Cabinet Okays 5% Quota For Kapus In The State

AP Cabinet Okays 5% Quota For Kapus In The State:- Andhra Pradesh Government has been struggling after the Kapu agitation took a major lead. Finally the state cabinet decided to extend the reservation for the Kapus by 5% in the state. This will not have any impact of the existing quota in the backward castes (BCs) in the state. The four communities ok Kapus -  Kapu, Ontari, Telaga and Balija will now get reservation in education, employment and government along with the economic benefits that the BCs have been getting.

A new category BC (F) will be on to extend the list of BCs for Kapus in Andhra Pradesh. The reservation for BCs will now reach 34% in the state. A three member committee headed by KL Manjunath submitted their report to AP Chief Minister Chandra Babu Naidu and they suggested 4 to 5% reservation for the Kapus after a quantitative analysis. The AP Cabinet met on Saturday to discuss about the Kapu reservation.

The draft will be presented in Assembly for discussion and then it will be sent to Legislative Council for its approval. The bill will then be sent to the Union Home Ministry for approval.The percentage with the current amendments in the state for BCs touched 55%.
