TRS MP Kavitha Ties Rakhi To Brother KTR, Gifts Him A Helmet:- On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan today, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MP and daughter of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, Kavitha Kalvakuntla, tied rakhi to her brother, minister KTR, at Pragathi Bhavan on Monday.
As part of the new road safety campaign, Kavitha gifted him a helmet.
Minister KTR gifted her a handloom sari as he is campaigning for handlooms. Both the leaders stood as examples for celebrating festival traditionally as well as promoting awareness of their special campaigns for the betterment and safety of people.
Speaking on the occasion, Kavitha said that the rakhi symbolizes love and confidence between a brother and sister. She called upon everyone in the country to celebrate the festival as it would give a confidence to all the girls that they are safe. She thanked famous sand artist Sudharshan Patnayak for supporting her helmet for safty campaign.
While across 10 Telangana districts the Rakhi festival was celebrated amid enthusiasm and gaiety. Sisters tied rakhis to their brothers to mark the occasion and exchanged sweets and pleasantries.
Kavitha, who kick started the campaign “gift your brother a Helmet on rakhi day”, on Mr Rao’s birthday on July 24 secured immense support from Central Ministers ( Nitin Gadkari and Smriti Irani), MPs, Shuttlers -Jwala Gutta and Saina Nehwal , Cricketers- Mithali Raj, Virendra Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir, Karnataka CM , Odisha CM and Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi.
Sisters and brothers in lakhs has supported her social media campaign # Sisters4Change #GiftAHelmet# , in which Ms Kavitha had appealed to sisters of the country to gift a helmet to their brothers while tying rakhi during Raksha Bandhan and spreading awareness about the two wheeler accidents.
Stressing on the importance of spreading awareness about helmets, Kavitha, daughter of Telangana Chief Minister K.Chandrashekhar Rao, said it is the need of the hour to safeguard our brothers. Almost 400 two wheeler riders die in road accidents, just because they do not wear helmet across the country every day.
Not completely but much lives can be saved by wearing helmets while riding bikes or scooters, she said.
Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has launched her weblink www.sisters4change.org in her chamber in Parliament recently and supported the campaign by appealing the sisters to gift helmets to the brothers during Rakhi.
