BJP Steps Up Its Attack On TRS Govt Over Chilli Farmers Issue

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has stepped up its attack on the TRS Government, and this time it has got the woes of the chilli farmers as the perfect weapon to do so.

After the Centre fixed Rs 5,000 per quintal as a one-time market intervention price, due to the overabundance in the market, Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya demanded the state government to sanction Rs 250 crore for the purchase of chilli from the farmers in agony.

Due to the encouragement from TS Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and ministers, the farmers have took up the chilli sowing. But the government did not inform the Centre about this. Under theĀ Market Intervention Scheme (MIS), the TRS government should immediately release the money and purchase the chillies, said the Union Minister.

Dattatreya further stated that the Centre would stand by the farmers and asked the TRS Government to take immediate steps to solve their problems. The Union Minister also asked the government to withdraw the cases against the farmers.

Meanwhile, the TS BJP Chief K. Laxman accused the TRS government of backing brokers in the market yards. The BJP will visit the Warangal and Khammam market yards, and study the plight of the farmers, said Laxman.
