Rumours strive for E.S.L. Narasimhan to be Vice President of India

Rumours are live that, name of E.S.L. Narasimhan, Governor of the two Telugu states, is doing the rounds in Delhi as an acceptable candidate as the Vice-President, replacing the present incumbent Hamid Ansari who will complete his second five-year term in August this year.

Narasimhan's problem-solving methods and how well he handled the both Telugu states Telangana and Andhra Pradesh that have several teething problems initially have received accolades from Prime Minister Modi and has enhanced his chances for the position of VP.

Narasimhan’s close association with the National Security Adviser Ajit Doval has reportedly prompted the BJP to favour his candidature. Mr Narasimhan was the chief of the Intelligence Bureau before he was appointed Governor for Chhattisgarh in 2007 by the UPA government. He is the only UPA appointed Governor who has survived under the NDA rule. Mr Narasimhan’s second term as Governor will end on May 3 this year.

Ekkadu Srinivasan Lakshmi Narasimhan was born in Tamil Nadu in 1945. After an initial two years of schooling in Hyderabad, he has completed his education from Chennai. Migrating from Physics to Political science, Shri Narasimhan is a gold medallist from the Madras Presidency College. He is also a graduate in Law from Madras Law College.

Narasimhan belongs to the 1968 batch of IPS officers from Andhra Pradesh cadre. He has served as the First Secretary in the Embassy of India in Moscow from 1981 to 1984. He is an highly respected police official.
