In a new twist in Sheena Bora's murder case, a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court on Tuesday has charged former media tycoons Indrani and Peter Mukerjea, and Indrani’s first husband Sanjeev Khanna, for the murder of Sheena Bora.

The trial will begin on February 1.

"Indrani wanted to kill her son as he was asking too many questions about his sister's disappearance", the CBI has said.

Indrani's driver Shyamvar Rai, the fourth accused who also helped in the killing, had turned as an approver for the CBI earlier.

The CBI has alleged that Sheena Bora was murdered by her mother over a property dispute. Peter Mukerjea, says "the investigating agency, was aware of the murder plan throughout."

Sheena Bora was an executive working for Mumbai Metro One based in Mumbai. She went missing on April 24, 2012. Indrani Mukerjea was accused of strangling Sheena inside a car with help from her ex-husband and driver.  

The half-burnt body was found in 2015 from the forests near Mumbai. Days later in August that year, Indrani Mukerjea was arrested.

The lawyers of both Indrani and Peter Mukherjea have shown that none of the charges can be proved by the CBI.

“There is no evidence or material to show Peter’s involvement for the charges of attempt to murder, cheating and forgery,” Gheewala had contended.

All the three accused have now been charged with kidnapping, murder, decomposing the body, destruction of evidence and giving false information. The court removed the charges of cheating, forgery and causing hurt with poison against all the three accused. The court also charged Indrani of using forged document as genuine.

Leading to the charge sheet filed by CBI, Gheewala had fought that ‘the agency has tried to color the case by adding several emails and messages. The agency by leading to some paragraphs and lines tried to read and draw an answer for the involvement of Peter.’
