18 Maoists Killed in Encounter near AOB, 2 Constables Injured

Around 18 Maoists were killed in an encounter near Andhra-Orissa Border on Monday. In this attack, two police constables were injured.  Police got the tip of that, in the Malkangiri forest area areounf 50-60 Maoists have gathered for meeting. After which Andhra Pradesh greyhound officials, Orrisa police along with center officials conducted a joint operation.

"Around 18 Maoists died. We have to get confirmation if the dead include any top Maoist leader. We will take the help of locals to identify the bodies. Guns, kitbags and few personal belongings of the slain Maoists were recovered from the site of encounter," said a police officer from Visakhapatnam district police.

According to the officials from past two days, maoists were conduction combing operation. The firing took place between Maoists and greyhound officials in which Maoists were killed and two police constables were injured.

The injured constables were expected to be shifted to KGH hospital in a helicopter. After this attack, tension prevailed in AOB. The incident took place early in the morning, 10km from Bujipattu villagein Andhra Pradesh border. In this encounter Maoists named Kiran, Sudhakar, and Uday died on spot.

Authorities also recovered 3 AK-47 along with ammunition and weapons. To identify the Maoists who were killed, police took former Maoists to the encounter spot. Combing is still taking place near AOB. Maoists head, Gadarla Ashok escaped from the spot. In this joint operation, BSF was the leading party.

This is the second and biggest encounter in Malkangiri district of Odisha. Superintendent of Police Rahul Dev Sharma told The Hindu that "it was a joint operation between the Greyhounds of AP and Odisha police. A few top leaders of the Maoist party might be among the dead, but it would take some time to confirm the same."

DIG Visakha Range Ch Srikanth, Visakhapatnam SP Rahul Dev Sharma and few others are on the way to the spot. More details are awaited.
