Not many know about badminton player, Pullela Gopichand and quite a few know that he is the coach of Indian badminton star Saina Nehwal. Gopichand is the only second Indian player to win the All England Open Championship after Prakash Padukone and after retiring for professional badminton, he has been a driving force for the emerging players. But never, Gopichand took advantage of his achievements. He did not even endorse any commercial for the sake of money.
Now a biopic is being planned on Gopichand and reportedly he is okay with it. Former captain of the India badminton team, Sanjay Sharma, along with his daughter Shachi, have penned a script documenting the struggles of Gopichand and it will be directed by Rikhil Bahadur. The film will roll out later this year and Gopichand will also associate with the film.
Confirming the biopic on Gopichand, one of the script writer Shachi said, “We've all read and heard so much about Prakash Padukone and more recently, Saina Nehwal. But not many are familiar with Gopichand's story, especially his struggles before he became a badminton star. It deserves a big-screen treatment.”
