Nearly 100 thatched houses were totally destroyed and more than 150 families rendered shelter less in a fire accident that broke out in the Tarakarama Nagar area of Krishna Lanka in Vijayawada today.
Members of the families whose houses caught fire walked out in fear leaving everything behind to the fire god and property worth lakhs of rupees was destroyed in the fire. Fortunately, there was no loss of life in the fire that spread from a house located down at the Krishna river bank.
Vijayawada East MLA Mr Yalamanchili Ravi, Municipal Commissioner Ravi Babu and Joint Collector Dr Gaurav Uppal visited the accident spot with the revenue staff and promised to help the victims financially.
District Collector Mr Rizvi later told journalists that two rehabilitation centers were arranged to provide temporary shelters to the victims.
