The Vijayawada town will soon have a full fledged passport office. The present office at Vijayawada has only been working as a transit point which collects applications and sends them to the Hyderabad office for processing.
To establish a full fledged passport office in the town, the Ministry of External Affairs has signed an MOU with the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) which has started the work.
The representatives of the TCS and officials of the Central Government Friday came to Vijayawada, met the police commissioner and held discussions in locating a suitable place in the city.
The representatives, accompanied by some prominent public figures, had examined some buildings but could not take an immediate decision.
The passport office in Vijayawada will come up under the scheme of Public Private Participation (PPP).
