The ongoing Telangana agitation has taken a drastic toll on the admissions to the prestigious Osmania University in Hyderabad. The century old university founded in 1908, saw a sharp decline in admissions.
Once the most sought after knowledge hub had been castigated by the aspiring students due to the participation of the various student organizations in T protests on campus.
As per records there is a sharp drop of about 12 percent in new admissions ringing alarm bells to the university staff. The University which housed various innovate courses and also has many affiliate colleges seems to be losing its sheen due to the avid participation of students and the frequent encounters with police.
Elite public feel that the University which was a prestige of the state and held as a mirror to the Nawabi culture that prevailed in these parts, is now dreaded by aspirants.
The alarming fact is that even recruiters seem to detest the campus owing to the lack of quality due to persistent holidays. Most political leaders have been reckoning the student forces to succeed in hogging the lime light is the main reason for this show down, claim officials.
At this rate the University might as well run into huge loses over a period of time. Many feel that a corrective step to resurrect the lost sheen is immediately required in order to keep up the tradition of Osmania University. (Wishesh AarKay)
