Gandhi Jayanti celebrated with fervor

Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated across the nation in schools, government offices and especially in prisons. Most politicians were engrossed in the usual morning drills at these venues. This was the day when the father of the nation was born in 1869 in Porbander.

The non-violent preacher for the first time in the world history demonstrated the power of the ultimate weapon 'Non Violence.' However the irony was that, on Jan 30 in 1948 he was assassinated at the Birla House while on his way to evening prayers.

Well it is on this day the schools remind the students that truth, is the ultimate winner. And by adhering to non-violence one can achieve the best results. But how far has Gandhism affected us, let's take a closer look. Even though we know the fact that our ancestors had spent sleepless nights fighting the British, we still resort to hoarding of all kinds, depriving others of their rightful share.

This has become a regular habit, on the larger scale the scams stand as testimony to our mammoth desires. While at the lower levels we try to bribe to get our work done faster, influence people for benefits, try to shadow others progress, garner maximum attention to be in favor, OMG the list is endless and equally embarrassing too.

Are we adhering to what our Bapu has taught all his life is one valid question that everyone has to pose to self. Hope at least this year we are able to weed away what is haunting us and pave way for a healthy future for the gen next. (With inputs from internet-AW AarKay)
