Saina Nehwal historic fete: London Olympics 2012

London Olympic 2012 the paramount of the sports world is sure to let onlookers let sigh of despair or of relief when their teams are at the ovals. However Indians did fare well in the Olympics Saina Nehwal scripted the nation's history by entering the Semis in the badminton event. On the medals front once again on Friday morning China leads with   with 34 medals of which 18 are gold. US follows with 37 of which 18 are gold. But in the Silver section US has only 9 whereas China leads with 11, pushing it to the top of the  table. And the third being South Korea with 14 medals of which seven are gold. Anyways, let's take a quick look at the Indian prospects on the day.

India : Super Saina Nehwal cruises into the semifinals of the women's singles badminton event at the London Olympics 2012. by doing so Saina has scripted the Indians Olympic history by being the first player in badminton to tread the path. A joyous moment for the nation of billions. Fourth seeded Saina zoomed past fifth seed Tine 21-15 22-20 in a 39-minute match at the Wembley Areana. With this she has set up an appointment with the current world No 1 and World champion Yihan Wang of China in the semifinals. Statistics favour chances for the Chinese, as Saina hasn't beaten her (Yihan Wang) even once in the last five encounters. On the other hand in the Men's singles event Parupalli Kashyap loses to Lee Chong Wei (Malaysia)

Indian Boxer Vijayender Singh boxes his way into the quarter finals of the middle weight (75) boxing event. He had a bout that delivered a nail-biting one-point victory (16-15 verdict) over his American opponent Terrell Gausha  at the ExCel Arena in London on Thursday. While in the Men's 60 kg boxing event Jai Bhagwan loses to Gani Zhailauov (Kazakhstan).

In the Tennis mixed doubles event India's ace pair Leander Paes-Sania Mirza beat Nenad Zimonjic-Ana Ivanovic (Serbia) with 6-2 6-4 . they move on to the second round of the event.

1.    Shooting: Men's 50-metre rifle prone: Gagan Narang and Joydeep Karmakar

2.    Badminton: Women's singles semi-finals: Saina Nehwal vs Yihan Wang.

3.    Tennis: Mixed doubles pair: Paes-Sania Mirza take on Belarus pair Max Mirnyi and Victoria Azarenka.
