One more jolt for Kalvakuntla Kavitha in Tihar Jail:- In Tihar jail, a Delhi Court has granted permission to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to question K Kavitha, a leader of the BRS, who was arrested in connection with a case involving the excise policy. Kavitha, the daughter of former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, was apprehended by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 15 as part of a money laundering investigation related to an alleged excise policy scam. Kaveri Baweja, the Special Judge for ED and CBI cases, has allowed the agency to interrogate Kavitha. This decision was made in response to a plea submitted by the CBI, in which they sought authorization to question Kavitha while she is in judicial custody. On a previous occasion, Kavitha had requested the court to grant her interim bail due to her 16-year-old son's exams, stating that he needed her "moral and emotional support".

Kavitha has been accused of being a prominent member of the "South Group", which supposedly provided kickbacks of Rs 100 crore to the ruling AAP in Delhi, in exchange for a significant portion of liquor licenses in the national capital. She was placed in 14-day judicial custody on Tuesday, March 28. The 2021-22 policy, which was later canceled, emerged from a report given by Delhi Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena in July 2022. The report pointed out alleged procedural shortcomings in the policy's development. It stated that decisions made by AAP leader Manish Sisodia as Excise Minister were arbitrary and one-sided, leading to financial losses of over Rs 580 crore to the treasury.
