AP High Court Grants Permission For Panchayat Polls:- In a shocking move, the High Court of Andhra Pradesh granted permission for conducting the Panchayat polls in the state. The State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar and the state Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy are at loggerheads over conducting the panchayat polls in the state. The High Court today asked the government to move ahead with the election commission and ordered them of conducting the panchayat polls (local body polls) that are pending from the past one year in the state. The State Election Commission recently approached the High Court after the government was hesitant about the local body polls. This came as a rude shock for the government of Andhra Pradesh about the elections.

The AP government is keen to challenge the decision in the Supreme Court very soon. The Election Commission approached the High Court after a single judge issued an interim order. The court suspended the order. The High Court listened to the arguments of both the sides after which the verdict was announced. The High Court bench comprising of Chief Justice AK Goswami and Justice C Praveen Kumar announced the verdict. The State Election Commission announced the election schedule for the local body polls on January 8th and they are scheduled to take place on February 4th. The AP Government soon challenged the decision on January 11th.
