Cyclone Nivar: Rs 400 Cr Loss For Puducherry:- Rs 400 crores is the estimated loss for agricultural and other sectors of Puducherry due to cyclone Nivar told Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanaswamy after he visited the flood affected regions of the state. The cyclone made its landfall yesterday morning during the early hours. Tamil Nadu and Puducherry along with some districts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha received heavy rainfall from the past couple of days. V Narayanaswamy said that paddy crops across 820 hectares, 200 hectares of vegetables, sugarcane of 170 hectares and 55 hectares of the banana crop is spoiled due to the cyclone Nivar. An interim relief of Rs 50 crores is sought by the government from the Centre.

The final assessment would be made by the government in all the departments and sectors of the state. From a deep depression, cyclone Nivar turned weakened over the south coastal Andhra Pradesh as per the report from the Indian Meteorological Department. A yellow alert is issued across the coastal Andhra Pradesh and the districts of Chittoor, Prakasam, Nellore and Kadapa received heavy rainfall. The international airport of Chennai resumed operations and 204 flights are being operated from today. After cyclone Nivar, Tamil Nadu is expected to receive heavy rainfall next week considering the low pressure in the Bay of Bengal from November 29th.
