Cyclone Nivar makes a Landfall near Puducherry:- Cyclone Nivar made a landfall finally near Puducherry and Marakkanam as per the weather officials. The coastal states are expected to receive heavy rainfall for the day and Nivar is named as the fifth strongest storm in the country. More than a lakh people were evacuated from the low-lying regions of Tamil Nadu and the relief activities are on. Along with the heavy rain, there were strong winds across the state and the government of Tamil Nadu announced a holiday today across 13 districts of the state. The Chennai airport and metro will remain closed for the day.

The coastal areas are expected to receive heavy rainfall today and there would be severe damage to the crops and several trees may get uprooted because of the heavy winds. 1516 relief camps are arranged in the state as a precautionary measure. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswami appealed to people to stay indoors. Around 1,200 National Disaster Response Force personnel are working in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry since yesterday. The Indian Navy is closely monitoring the movement of Cyclone Nivar and the rescue teams will dive in if needed more assistance.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Shri Edappadi K Palaniswami and Puducherry Chief Minister Shri V Narayanasamy about the situation. Andhra Pradesh's Chittoor and Nellore districts are kept on high alert and received heavy rainfall yesterday. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy alerted the officials of the state. "Very severe cyclonic Storm #Nivar weakens into a severe cyclonic storm. Centre of #NivarCyclone lies over land. Crossed coast near Puducherry during 11:30 pm of 25th November to 2:30 am of 26th November," IMD told in a tweet.
