AP Government Slaps Cess on Petrol and Diesel:- The Andhra Pradesh government is in a huge financial crunch and the coronavirus pandemic doubled the financial problems of the state. The government of Andhra Pradesh decided to levy road cess on petrol and diesel which will add extra burden on the people of the state. The state cabinet took this call during a recent cabinet meeting and the proposal to levy Rs 1 per litre on petrol and diesel has been approved. The AP government will come up with an ordinance for the same in the next couple of days. The additional burden on the people of Andhra Pradesh would be Rs 600 crores per annum with the latest decision.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy instructed the officials to take up the repair works of the roads across the state by using these funds. The roads in Andhra Pradesh are badly damaged due to the recent rains in the state. YS Jagan said that the people would not spare the delay in the road repairs and he instructed the officials to go ahead with the process. It is the officials who suggested this to the government to levy the cess on petrol and diesel to raise the funds to repair the roads. The AP Road Development Corporation borrowed Rs 3000 crores early this year but the funds were diverted for Pasupu Kumkuma scheme.
